The family name of Perry is exceedingly ancient. It is found in England as far back as 1156; and yet another family of the name was seated in Devonshire, England, in 1307. The genealogists do not agree as to the origin of the name, one authority making it from the French, Peret. Yet another claims that one branch of the family derived its name from Periers, near Evreux, in Normandy; while another makes it come from Periers, in Brittany. Whatever the origin may have been, it is certain that as far as Great Britain is concerned it is derived from the old name, Periers, which in turn was derived from the French.
The Perry Family this site focuses upon began in the Counties of Perquimans and Halifax, North Carolina. In 1796, the family moved to Laurens County, Georgia, where they made their home on the east side of the Oconee River, a few miles below the mouth of Buck Eye Creek. The river was then the line between the whites and the Indians. These hardy individuals lived, worked, married, raised children, died and were buried in the solitary wilds of the State of Georgia. Through the years, this family traversed into the States of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, facing and overcoming the hardships encountered along the way. During the many years outlined here, the Perry family has contributed to the success of this great country. As you look through these pages, try to imagine the laughter and tears, success and failures faced by each person you read about. Take a moment to join me in celebrating and honoring the lives of my ancestors.
